"Striving for Excellence” These words come to mind as we think about what we want to accomplish here at Falling Waters. What does that vision look like and how can we define & then accomplish “excellence’?
What are the elements of an excellent home ?
Homes that are aesthetically pleasing inside and out. useful practical space, not too big not too small. good traffic patterns & furniture placement, meet the needs of the homeowner...accessible, entertaining, guest quarters, flex spaces, storage, privacy, light, convenience, value, comfort, low maintenance, safety, enjoyment. In summary an excellent home will bring years of pleasure to the owners... growing better with age like a good friendship or marriage.
No one home can meet all the needs & desires of everyone but we have all these considerations and more in mind in an effort to “strive for excellence”.
How do we accomplish excellence in home building?
We search out the new products, practices & materials at home shows, on line and in construction trade journals. We research market trends and forecasts to better understand and meet the needs and desires of our buyers. We network with other builders, suppliers and trades people who have the same mind set. We take this information, blend it with our own preferences and experience, chose a direction and proceed with thoughtful detailed planning. We make every effort to keep open good lines of communication with everyone. Good communication will help to reduce mistakes, misunderstandings, delays, frustration, sub par workmanship, etc.
Does “excellence” just mean higher cost?
Sometimes excellence does cost more up front... sometimes excellent building practices, planning & execution will make up for some or all of the added cost. All of the “extra cost” will come back with dividends in lower energy bills, fewer repairs, less maintenance, cleaner air and a healthy home. There is always room for excellence.
